Rimfire Suppressor Buying Guide

The rimfire suppressors we carry range from .22 LR-only cans to models rated for 5.7x28 and 5.56, with our team's go-to picks, sound test highlights and integrally suppressed .22s. For how rimfire suppression works (ammo, pistols vs. rifles, threads and cleaning), see our rimfire suppression guide.

Our team's picks

Our Go-To Rimfire Suppressors

Ask our team which .22 suppressor to buy, and the answer usually comes from the same six cans: the Mask HD, 22 Take Down, Switchback 22, RXD22Ti, FLOW 22 Ti and CAT SR A2. They all perform within a decibel or two of each other, and that's extremely hard to hear. Jorge on our sales team puts it this way: one can may measure louder than another, but is the difference something you'd notice? So pick one on size, how easy it is to clean, and how you'll use it.

Most popular

Mask HD

By far the most popular .22 suppressor on the market, and we've sold thousands. It's been on the market for years and keeps the setup simple: one length (5.1 in., 6.7 oz, with no sections to add or remove), and the baffles come apart for cleaning.

Same idea, newer

22 Take Down

A simple one-length can like the Mask HD, but newer to the market. It's 4.8 in. and 4.8 oz, with a titanium tube and stainless baffles that come apart for cleaning.

For tinkerers

Switchback 22

Runs short, medium or full size (2.80 to 5.75 in.). Flip the front baffles into rifle optimized mode and it gets just a little quieter, on a rifle only. Rifle optimized mode doesn't work well on a pistol.

3D printed, a little quieter

RXD22Ti

One of the newer 3D printed cans, from Ruger and Dead Air. In our experience it's just a little quieter than the others here. It mounts on an XRF muzzle brake that catches lead before it reaches your barrel threads.

3D printed, flow-through

FLOW 22 Ti

Printed in titanium at 3.9 oz, so it adds very little weight to a pistol. Flow-through means the gas goes forward and out the front instead of back at you, which keeps blowback low on semi-autos.

3D printed, strong test results

CAT SR A2

A one-piece printed titanium can for .22 LR only, 5.65 in. and 3.3 oz. PEW Science tested the original SR (A1), and it's still the top-rated rimfire can on both PEW Science test guns, a bolt-action rifle and a pistol.

Cleaning is the biggest difference between them. The Mask HD, 22 Take Down and Switchback 22 come apart, so you clean them by hand: soak the parts and scrub them. The 3D printed RXD22Ti and FLOW 22 Ti can only be cleaned with an acid soak, like HUXWRX Suppressor Sauce, and the one-piece CAT SR A2 doesn't come apart.

Will you actually run it short? Modular cans like the Switchback 22 come apart into a shorter setup for a pistol. If you won't use it short, skip the modular cans and get a one-length can like the Mask HD or 22 Take Down.

Rimfire Suppressor Picks by Need

Easiest to clean

Sparrow 22

The easiest .22 suppressor to clean on the market: unscrew the back cap, slide off the tube and peel the half tubes off the core, no tools needed. It's an older design and one of the lower-priced cans we carry. It isn't the quietest, and it has first round pop on short barrels (the first shot is louder than the ones after it). On a rifle, you'll never notice it.

Shortest for pistols

CAT BEN

4.3 in. and 3.9 oz of one-piece printed titanium for .22 LR pistols and rifles. PEW Science found no other can it had tested that matches its sound in the same length.

Lightest

Erector, Jessie's Girl AL and Mustang22

Aluminum cans for .22 LR only. The Erector is 2.6 oz with all 10 baffles (7.6 in. long), the Jessie's Girl AL is 3.1 oz, and the Mustang22 is 3.3 oz long or 2.4 oz short.

All stainless, belt-fed rated

Oculus22

Machined entirely from 17-4 stainless, so it takes hard use and almost any cleaning method. Belt-fed rated on .22 LR, full-auto rated on .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .17 WSM and 5.7x28, and it runs 5.25 in. long or 3.25 in. short.

All-titanium, serviceable

Titanium 22

All titanium at 4 oz, with baffles that come out for cleaning. One of our most-reviewed rimfire cans, and one buyer owns eight of them.

.22 plus 5.56

Optimus Micro, Whisper 22 / Lifesaver 22 and FireCat22

Rimfire cans that also take 5.56: the Optimus Micro on 14.5 in. and longer barrels, the Whisper 22 and Lifesaver 22 on 16 in. and longer (no SBRs, with round limits), and the FireCat22 for single shots on 10.3 in. and longer barrels. Expect 5.56 to be loud through any of them.

Lower-priced

Sparrow 22, Jessie's Girl AL, El Camino and Hush-Point 22

Among the lowest-priced rimfire suppressors we carry. The Hush-Point 22 is aluminum and covers six rimfire calibers, from .17 Mach 2 to .22 WMR.

Integrally suppressed

Sicario

A Ruger MK IV pistol with the suppressor attached, sold complete. It's the next step once you own a removable can, not a first purchase. See Integrally suppressed .22s.

Where to start

How to Choose a Rimfire Suppressor

Start with the calibers you'll shoot, then the gun you'll shoot most.

  • Calibers: rimfire suppressors fall into three groups: .22 LR only (the lightest), rated past .22 LR (most go up to .22 WMR, .17 HMR and 5.7x28 for FN pistols and carbines), and a few that also take 5.56. Use a suppressor only with the calibers it's rated for, and check the rating for every gun you'll put it on.
  • Short or not: modular cans (the Switchback 22, Oculus22, Mustang22, Erector, Nyx Mod 2 and NAV 2.0) come apart into a shorter setup for a pistol. Ask yourself whether you'll actually run it short. If you won't, skip the modular cans.
  • Pistol or rifle: a rifle is quieter. The longer barrel burns more of the powder before the bullet leaves, so there's less gas for the can to handle. On a pistol, look at the shorter, lighter cans.
  • First round pop: the first shot is louder than the shots after it. Some cans show it more than others, and it's most noticeable on short barrels. The Sparrow 22 is the example here: it's noticeable on barrels under about 10 in. If you're shooting it on a rifle, you'll never notice it.
  • Cleaning: .22 LR is dirty. Cans that come apart (the Mask HD, 22 Take Down, Switchback 22, Sparrow 22, Oculus22, Titanium 22 and others) clean by hand. The 3D printed RXD22Ti and FLOW 22 Ti can only be cleaned with an acid soak, like HUXWRX Suppressor Sauce, and the one-piece CAT cans don't come apart. Plan on cleaning a .22 can about every 500 to 1,000 rounds, and check your manual.
  • Weight and material: aluminum cans are the lightest and are for .22 LR (the Hush-Point 22 and NAV 2.0 also cover rimfire magnums, not 5.7x28). Aluminum is a little trickier to clean, so keep it out of ultrasonic cleaners. Titanium keeps most cans around 3 to 5 oz. All-stainless cans like the Oculus22 weigh more but take hard use and almost any cleaning method.
  • Full-auto and FRTs: many are full-auto rated on .22 LR. The Switchback 22 is full-auto rated on every caliber it's rated for, the Oculus22 is belt-fed rated on .22 LR, and the FireCat22 is rated for forced reset triggers.
  • Threads: almost every rimfire can threads onto 1/2x28. Pistols with other threads take an adapter. See Threads and adapters.

For more on ammo, hosts and cleaning, see our rimfire suppression guide.

Rimfire to 5.7x28

Rimfire Suppressors Rated Past .22 LR

Most of these are rated from .22 LR up to .22 WMR, .17 HMR and 5.7x28. The Hush-Point 22 and NAV 2.0 stop at the rimfire magnums. Each can links to its product page and, where we have one, to its section of the brand's buying guide for mounts and accessories.

Dead Air Mask 22 HD

The Mask HD is by far the most popular .22 suppressor on the market, and we've sold thousands.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, .17 WSM, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.1 in.  |  Weight: 6.7 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless baffles, Grade 9 titanium tube  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: .22 LR  |  Barrel limits: None

It's been out the longest, and it's dead simple: one length, no sections to swap, and it sounds great on pistols and rifles. The click-together baffles come apart for cleaning, and it has low first round pop. Adapters for the Walther P22, SIG Mosquito and GSG 1911 let it run on those pistols.

Test results and reviews

Guns & Ammo: Measured it as the quietest of four .22 LR cans at the shooter's ear on a Ruger 10/22 with subsonic ammo. Read the review

Troy, Mask HD owner: “Now that I own several newer cans, the Mask is still right near the top. No FRP, and whisper quiet.”

Jay, Mask HD owner: “I run mine on my MK3 and it sounds like a puff of air with CCI quiet 22.”

Thunder Beast 22 Take Down Gen 2

The 22 Take Down Gen 2 is the same kind of can as the Mask HD: one length, simple, and it sounds great. It's just newer to the market.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, 5.7x28  |  Length: 4.8 in.  |  Weight: 4.8 oz  |  Material: Grade 9 titanium tube, 17-4 stainless baffles  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: .22 LR

It comes completely apart for cleaning, and the keyed, labeled baffles only go back together the right way. The assembly tool is in the box.

Test results and reviews

Courtney, 22 Take Down owner: “I bought this to exclusively use on my Savage 93R17 for varmint control. I was shocked by the fact that the TBAC did not change my POA at all.”

Shop the Thunder Beast 22 Take Down Gen 2 →   |   Mounts and accessories →

SilencerCo Switchback 22

The Switchback 22 is for shooters who want several configurations.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .17 WSM, .22 Hornet, 5.7x28  |  Length: 2.80 to 5.75 in.  |  Weight: 3.7 to 6.9 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless baffles, titanium tubes  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: All rated calibers

Run it short, medium or full size. On a rifle, flip the front baffles into rifle optimized mode and it gets just a little quieter. Rifle optimized mode doesn't work well on a pistol, so on a handgun, run it full size as it ships. The baffles come out for cleaning; SilencerCo says to clean it every 1,000 rounds and whenever you switch between .22 LR and 5.7x28.

Test results and reviews

Shooting Illustrated: Measured it within 0.70 dB of two other top rimfire cans, and heard no first round pop on a pistol with standard velocity ammo. Read the review

Jay, Switchback 22 owner: “When I put the Switchback on my 1022 and I switched the baffles, I heard birds chirping.”

Shop the SilencerCo Switchback 22 →   |   Mounts and accessories →

Dead Air RXD22Ti

The RXD22Ti is one of the newer 3D printed cans, made by Ruger and Dead Air, and in our experience it's just a little quieter than the others here.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, .17 WSM, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.6 in.  |  Weight: 4.6 oz (5.6 oz with the XRF brake)  |  Material: Titanium tube, 3D printed titanium core  |  Mount: 1/2x28 XRF muzzle brake (included)  |  Full-auto: .22 LR  |  Barrel limits: None

It mounts on Dead Air's XRF muzzle brake, a quick-attach mount that catches lead before it reaches your barrel threads, so moving it between guns is fast. Like the FLOW 22 Ti, it can only be cleaned with an acid soak, like HUXWRX Suppressor Sauce, not by hand.

Gearmaster, RXD22Ti owner: “This can works so much better on gas mitigation for the same amount of quiet.”

HUXWRX FLOW 22 Ti

The FLOW 22 Ti is HUXWRX's 3D printed titanium flow-through can, and at 3.9 oz you barely notice it on a pistol.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, 5.7  |  Length: 5.53 in.  |  Weight: 3.9 oz  |  Material: 3D printed Grade 5 titanium  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: Yes  |  Barrel limits: None

Flow-through means the gas goes forward and out the front instead of back at you, which keeps blowback low on semi-autos. It doesn't come apart, so like the RXD22Ti, it can only be cleaned with an acid soak. HUXWRX's Suppressor Sauce is made for it, and we carry it.

Test results and reviews

Marc, FLOW 22 Ti owner: “It makes an already fun rimfire rifle even quieter and cleaner, with the flow-through design keeping blowback low so it stays reliable and pleasant through long strings of fire.”

C., FLOW 22 Ti owner: “This can more often stays on my 5.7. It tames an otherwise very loud round and keeps it reliably cycling compared to a traditional can.”

SilencerCo Sparrow 22

The Sparrow 22 is the easiest .22 suppressor to clean on the market.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .17 WSM, .22 Hornet, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.08 in.  |  Weight: 6.5 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: .22 LR

No tools needed: unscrew the back cap, slide off the tube and peel the half tubes off the core. It's older tech, but it's tried and true, and it's one of the lower-priced cans we carry. It isn't the quietest, and it has first round pop: the first shot is louder than the ones after it. That's most noticeable on short barrels, under about 10 in., like a pistol. If you're shooting it on a rifle, you'll never notice it. SilencerCo says to clean it about every 1,000 rounds and to keep solvent and ultrasonic cleaners off the outer tube. Our tip: use a nickel to scrape the carbon out of the inside of the clamshell (the half tubes). That's what makes cleaning it so easy.

Test results and reviews

Jesse, Sparrow 22 owner: “It's literally the easiest 22 Silencer on the market to clean because of those half sleeves.” He notes the first round pop on shorter barrels and says he doesn't really notice it on his rifles.

Rugged Oculus22

The Oculus22 is machined entirely from 17-4 stainless, and it's two lengths in one can.

Calibers: .22 LR (belt-fed rated), .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .17 WSM, 5.7x28 (full-auto rated)  |  Length: 5.25 in. or 3.25 in.  |  Weight: 6.9 oz or 4.3 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless throughout  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread

Rugged's ADAPT module gives you the long and short setups. Because it's all stainless, it takes hard use and practically any cleaning method, including ultrasonic cleaners and harsh solvents, and the keyed baffles index the same way every time.

Test results and reviews

PEW Science: Rated it 92.8 long on a 16 in. CZ 452 .22 LR bolt rifle (SSS.6.1).

Troy, Oculus22 owner: “Mine currently resides on my 17 HMR and I love it.”

Otter Creek Labs Titanium 22

The Titanium 22 is an all-titanium .22 suppressor at 4 oz, and a customer favorite.

Calibers: .22 LR (full-auto), 5.7x28, .17 HMR, .22 Mag  |  Length: 5.18 in.  |  Weight: 4 oz  |  Material: Titanium  |  Mount: 1/2x28, semi-permanent  |  Full-auto: .22 LR

The baffles come out for cleaning and have alignment tabs, so they only go back one way. You can clean them by hand, in an ultrasonic cleaner, with chemicals or in a stainless pin tumbler. The mount stays on the gun when you unthread the can, and its threads run longer than most to fit longer-threaded rifle barrels.

Test results and reviews

PEW Science: 82.8 on a Beretta 21A pistol, second only to the CAT SR when it was published (SSS.6.150).

Dave B, Titanium 22 owner: “These are so good I ended up buying 8 of them and went dedicated for all my .22's.”

YHM Phantom 22

The Phantom 22 is YHM's 4 oz rimfire can for pistols and rifles, rated up to 5.7x28.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.5 in.  |  Weight: 4 oz  |  Material: 7075 and 6061 aluminum, 17-4 stainless baffles  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: Yes, with a cooling period between magazines  |  Barrel limits: None on .22 LR; 10 in. on .22 Mag, .17 HMR and 5.7x28

The baffles interlock and index so they go back together the right way, and the back of the blast chamber doubles as the tool for the muzzle cap. A stainless thread insert protects the mounting threads.

Diligent Defense Road Hunter

The Road Hunter is a 4.5 oz, 100% titanium rimfire can that comes apart for cleaning.

Calibers: .22 LR, .17 HMR, .22 WMR, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.1875 in.  |  Weight: 4.5 oz  |  Material: Titanium  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread

Pull the direct thread adapter or the end cap to get to the baffles. They're keyed and labeled, so they go back in the right order.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.6 in.  |  Weight: 3.6 oz  |  Material: Grade 5 and Grade 9 titanium  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: .22 LR

Griffin Checkmate HD

The Checkmate HD is built to be easy to clean.

Calibers: .22 LR to 5.7x28 (not .22-250)  |  Length: 5.04 in.  |  Weight: 5.8 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless, 7075-T6 aluminum  |  Mount: EZ-LOK  |  Full-auto: No

Griffin's CARBON-GARD O-rings seal the baffle core so carbon stays off the surfaces that usually foul, and it comes apart with a quarter. Griffin recommends letting it cool after 21 rounds of 5.7x28.

Test results and reviews

BW, Checkmate HD owner: “This suppressor wasn't tested against the best sounding 22 suppressors, I would put this one up against them, this thing is very quiet.”

Ambient Arms STRATOS .22

The STRATOS .22 is a 3D printed titanium can and the first .22 suppressor with Ambient's Ambient Intake System.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, 5.7x28  |  Length: 5.4 in.  |  Weight: 4.5 oz  |  Material: 3D printed titanium  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: Yes  |  Barrel limits: None

Intake ports draw cool outside air into the can to mix with the hot gas. Ambient says that lowers the operating temperature and the report and cuts blowback. Ambient recommends a de-fouling immersion bath every 1,000 rounds and recommends having Ambient do any other maintenance.

Rimfire plus centerfire

Rimfire Suppressors That Also Take 5.56

These three cover rimfire and also 5.56, each with limits. Expect 5.56 to be loud through any of them: there just isn't enough volume in a rimfire-size can to really knock it down. If 5.56 is a big part of your shooting, a dedicated 5.56 can or a multi-caliber suppressor is the better tool.

Griffin Optimus Micro

The Optimus Micro is a full 17-4 stainless rimfire can that also runs 5.56 on 14.5 in. and longer barrels.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, 5.7; 5.56 on 14.5 in. and longer  |  Length: 5.3 in.  |  Weight: 8.5 oz  |  Material: 17-4 stainless  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread (included)  |  Full-auto: Yes

It's user serviceable, with five baffles, and rimfire and 5.7 have no barrel restrictions. With Griffin's Optimus Micro Taper Mount Interface (sold separately), it fits Griffin Taper Mount devices and is rated up to .22-250 on 22 in. and longer barrels.

Test results and reviews

Steven, Optimus Micro owner: “Pretty good 22lr can and I love that I can use it in my AR as well.”

Exigent FireCat22

The FireCat22 is a 3D printed Inconel rimfire can built for full-auto, forced reset triggers and the higher-pressure calibers most rimfire cans can't take.

Calibers: .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, 5.7x28; single-shot 5.56 on 10.3 in. and longer  |  Length: 5 in.  |  Weight: 6.75 oz  |  Material: Inconel 718  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: Yes; FRT rated

It has an internal flash hider and no weld seams, and it doesn't come apart.

Test results and reviews

TJ, FireCat22 owner: “I have this on my M&P 22X and it shoots like a dream! I talked to the team at Capitol Armory and this is one of the cans they recommended.”

Whisperchicks Whisper 22 / Whisperstrike Lifesaver 22

The Whisper 22 and Lifesaver 22 share the same specs and ratings under two names: a 3D printed titanium monocore that comes apart for cleaning.

Calibers: .22 LR (belt-fed), .17 HMR, 5.7x28, 5.56 (16 in. and longer, no SBR), .22-250, .22 Creedmoor  |  Length: 6 in.  |  Weight: 5.44 oz  |  Material: Grade 23 titanium, 3D printed monocore  |  Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread  |  Full-auto: Yes

Each caliber has a round limit before the can needs to cool: 200 rounds of .22 LR, 60 of .17 HMR, 45 of 5.7x28, 30 of 5.56, 6 of .22-250 and 4 of .22 Creedmoor. The Whisper 22 comes in colors like Pink, Rose Gold and Black Cherry.

Integrals

Integrally Suppressed .22s

An integrally suppressed gun has the suppressor built around the barrel. The barrel is ported, so gas bleeds off before the bullet leaves and high velocity ammo slows to subsonic speed. You don't need subsonic ammo, and the gun is shorter than one with a screw-on can.

Our take: we usually don't recommend an integral as your first rimfire suppressor. Start with a removable can. An integral makes more sense later if you want the most compact, quietest .22 setup.

TBA Sicario MKIV

The TBA Sicario is a Ruger MK IV pistol with TBA's suppressor attached, and we sell it complete, in stainless steel or titanium.

Host: Ruger MK IV  |  Barrel: Cut to 4.5 in. and ported  |  Suppressor: Two pieces: tube and monocore  |  Material: 316 stainless or 6AL4V titanium  |  Sound: TBA lists 41 dB of reduction

The tube and monocore come apart for cleaning, and the end cap comes off with the edge of the factory magazine. TBA's Sic adapter lets you take the suppressor off and run it on other .22s threaded 1/2x28, but removal is cumbersome. We recommend leaving it on the pistol.

Other makers build integrally suppressed .22s too, including TBA Suppressors and Innovative Arms, for bolt-action rifles, Ruger 10/22s and handguns. We don't stock them regularly, but we're happy to get one for you. Call us at 512-879-1068.

Sound tests

Sound Test Highlights

Most of these cans measure within a decibel or two of each other, which is hard to hear. These are the highlights. Silencer Summit readings are in dBA, and lower is quieter. PEW Science ratings work the other way: higher means less hazard to your hearing.

  • CAT SR: PEW Science's top-rated rimfire can on both of its test guns: 96.8 on a 16 in. CZ 452 bolt rifle and 87.6 on a 2.4 in. Beretta 21A pistol, with CCI Standard Velocity (SSS.6.140, SSS.6.141). PEW tested the original SR (A1); the SR A2 is the current version.
  • CAT BEN: 79.6 on the Beretta 21A (SSS.6.205). PEW Science found no other can it had tested that matched it in the same length.
  • Otter Creek Labs Titanium 22: 82.8 on the Beretta 21A, second only to the CAT SR when it was published (SSS.6.150).
  • Within about a decibel on a bolt rifle: on a 16.5 in. Volquartsen bolt-action .22 LR with CCI Standard Velocity, the Mask (116.1 dBA), Switchback 22 long (116.1), Road Hunter (116.4), Phantom 22 (116.6), Nyx (116.7) and Oculus22 long (117.2) all measured within about a decibel of each other. The rifle without a suppressor measured 141.3 dBA.*
  • Within about a decibel on a pistol: on a SIG P322 with CCI Standard Velocity, the Titanium 22 (117.2 dBA), 22 Take Down Gen 2 (117.6) and Phantom 22 (118.0) landed within a decibel of each other. The pistol without a suppressor measured 154.8 dBA.*

*Sound data: 2024 and 2025 Silencer Summit.

Threads, Mounts and Adapters

Almost every rimfire suppressor threads onto 1/2x28, the standard thread on threaded .22 barrels. If your .22 has different threads, an adapter converts them. Look up your gun in our thread pitch chart.

Some .22 barrels are threaded to AR-15 length, and most .22 suppressors won't shoulder correctly on them. A rifle thread spacer shortens the threads to .22 LR length.

A few cans mount differently. The RXD22Ti rides on Dead Air's XRF muzzle brake, the Checkmate HD on our listing uses Griffin's EZ-LOK mount, and the Optimus Micro can use Griffin's Taper Mount devices with an interface sold separately.

For the mounts and accessories that fit a can, use the Mounts and accessories link under it, or shop all rimfire mounts and thread adapters.

FAQ

Rimfire Suppressor FAQ

What is the best .22 suppressor?

Our team's go-to cans are the Mask HD, 22 Take Down, Switchback 22, RXD22Ti, FLOW 22 Ti and CAT SR A2. They all perform within a decibel or two of each other, which is extremely hard to hear, so pick one on size, how easy it is to clean, and how you'll use it. See our go-to rimfire suppressors.

What is the quietest rimfire suppressor?

In PEW Science testing, the CAT SR is the top-rated rimfire can on both its bolt rifle and its pistol. In our experience, the RXD22Ti is just a little quieter than the other cans we reach for, and the Switchback 22 in rifle optimized mode gets a little quieter on a rifle. The differences are a decibel or two, which is hard to hear.

What is the most popular .22 suppressor?

The Mask HD. It's by far the most popular .22 suppressor on the market, and we've sold thousands.

What is the easiest .22 suppressor to clean?

The Sparrow 22. It comes apart without tools: unscrew the back cap, slide off the tube and peel the half tubes off the core. Our tip: use a nickel to scrape the carbon out of the inside of the half tubes.

What is first round pop?

First round pop means the first shot is louder than the shots after it. Some cans show it more than others, and it's most noticeable on short barrels. The Sparrow 22 has it on barrels under about 10 in. If you're shooting it on a rifle, you'll never notice it.

What is the best .22 pistol suppressor?

A short, light can. The CAT BEN is 4.3 in. and 3.9 oz, the 22 Take Down is 4.8 in., and the FLOW 22 Ti is 3.9 oz. If you go with the Switchback 22, run it full size as it ships on a pistol, since rifle optimized mode doesn't work well on a pistol.

What is the best suppressor for a 10/22 or other .22 rifle?

Any of our go-to cans. A rifle is quieter than a pistol to start with, and on a rifle the Switchback 22's rifle optimized mode gets it just a little quieter.

Should I get a modular .22 suppressor?

Only if you'll actually run it short. Modular cans like the Switchback 22 and Oculus22 come apart into a shorter setup for a pistol. If you won't use it short, a one-length can like the Mask HD or 22 Take Down is simpler.

Can a .22 suppressor be used on 5.7x28, .22 WMR or .17 HMR?

Many can. Most of the cans in this guide are rated up to 5.7x28, including the Mask HD, RXD22Ti, Switchback 22, Sparrow 22, Oculus22 and 22 Take Down. The CAT SR A2 and BEN, Jessie's Girl AL, Mustang22, Erector and Taquito 22 are .22 LR only. Check the rating for every caliber you'll shoot.

Can I shoot 5.56 through a .22 suppressor?

Only through one rated for it: the Optimus Micro (14.5 in. and longer barrels), the Whisper 22 and Lifesaver 22 (16 in. and longer, no SBRs, 30 rounds before cooling) and the FireCat22 (single shots on 10.3 in. and longer). Expect it to be loud: there isn't enough volume in a rimfire-size can to really knock 5.56 down. The other cans here aren't rated for 5.56.

Can I use a .223 suppressor on a .22?

Only if the maker rates it for .22 LR. .22 LR is dirty, and lead fouling builds up inside a can you can't take apart. A dedicated rimfire can sounds better on .22 and is easier to keep clean. See our rimfire suppression guide.

What thread size are .22 suppressors?

1/2x28. If your .22 has different threads, an adapter converts them. See Threads and adapters or our thread pitch chart.

How do you clean a 3D printed rimfire suppressor?

The RXD22Ti and FLOW 22 Ti can only be cleaned with an acid soak, like HUXWRX Suppressor Sauce, not by hand. The one-piece CAT cans don't come apart either. The Whisper 22 and Lifesaver 22 are the exception: their printed monocore comes apart for cleaning.

How often should I clean a .22 suppressor?

Plan on about every 500 to 1,000 rounds, and check your manual for your can's interval. .22 LR is dirty, and a can gets harder to clean the longer you wait.

Are rimfire suppressors full-auto rated?

Many are, on .22 LR. The Switchback 22 is full-auto rated on every caliber it's rated for, the Oculus22 is belt-fed rated on .22 LR and full-auto rated on the rest, and the FireCat22 is also rated for forced reset triggers. The CAT cans, Checkmate HD, Road Hunter, Erector, Jessie's Girl AL, Hush-Point 22 and NAV 2.0 aren't full-auto rated.

Is titanium, aluminum or stainless better for a .22 suppressor?

It's a trade between weight and toughness. The aluminum cans are the lightest (the Erector is 2.6 oz built, the Jessie's Girl AL 3.1 oz), and they're for .22 LR. Aluminum is also a little trickier to clean, so keep it out of ultrasonic cleaners. Titanium cans like the Titanium 22 and Nyx stay around 4 oz and handle more calibers. The all-stainless Oculus22 is heavier at 6.9 oz long, but takes hard use and almost any cleaning method.

Do I still need a tax stamp for a .22 suppressor?

The NFA tax on suppressors has been $0 since January 1, 2026. You still file an ATF Form 4 and wait for approval before you take it home. We file the eForm 4 for you and ship the suppressor to your door once it's approved. See how to buy a suppressor.

What is an integrally suppressed .22?

A gun with the suppressor built around a ported barrel. The ports slow high velocity ammo to subsonic speed, so you don't need subsonic ammo, and the gun is shorter than one with a screw-on can. We sell the Sicario, and we can get integrals from TBA, Innovative Arms and others. We don't usually recommend one as a first can: buy a removable can first. See Integrally suppressed .22s.

Where can I buy a .22 suppressor?

We sell them online. Shop our rimfire suppressors, and we'll file the eForm 4 and ship the suppressor to your door once it's approved.
