Energetic Armament Buying Guide
The Vox S, Vox K2, Peak 30, Lux, Ferox, Big Sixy, Sonus, Sonus 9K and the Nyx rimfire family: what each Energetic Armament suppressor is built for, how the Serial ID Ring works, what PEW Science measured, mounts, and how they compare.
How to Choose an Energetic Armament Suppressor
Energetic Armament is an engineering-first suppressor maker in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Every centerfire model uses the 1.375x24 HUB thread and Energetic's patented Serial ID Ring, which lets the factory replace a damaged core without new NFA paperwork.
Pick by caliber and use:
- .30 cal, hard use and full-auto: the Vox S (5.9 in.) or the compact Vox K2 (4.9 in.), both C300 maraging steel with a wipe end cap.
- .30 cal, multi-caliber rifles: the stainless Peak 30, rated from 5.56 to 300 Win Mag.
- .30 cal, bolt guns and precision rifles: the titanium Lux, the lightest .30 cal in the lineup.
- AR-style 5.56 and 6mm: the stainless Ferox, full-auto rated with a flash hider end cap, or the Big Sixy, a 3D printed Inconel 718 can with a built-in flash hider, designed for less blowback.
- 9mm: the Sonus or the shorter Sonus 9K, both full-auto rated on 9mm and rated for 300 BLK.
- Rimfire: the all-titanium Nyx, the modular Nyx Mod 2, or the Nyx 32, which adds .32 ACP.
Built by Engineers
Anyone can make a suppressor quiet if size doesn't matter. Hang a 55-gallon drum off the muzzle and it'll be quiet. The hard part is getting good suppression out of a can that's still short and light, and that's what Energetic Armament is known for. That's efficiency: the most sound reduction per ounce and per inch of suppressor.
- Engineering background. Founders Karl Edminster and Steve Piche started an engineering company in 2003 that did consulting work for the US Naval Research Laboratory and the FBI, including silencers. They formed Energetic Armament in 2017, and Summit Sound Technologies acquired it in 2022 (Energetic Armament).
- Materials picked for the job. C300 maraging steel on the Vox S and Vox K2, 17-4 H900 stainless on the Peak 30, Ferox and Sonus, 3D printed Inconel 718 on the Big Sixy, and titanium on the Lux and Nyx rimfire cans. C300 maraging steel has over 270 ksi yield strength vs. 100 ksi for 17-4 H1150 stainless.
- Wipe end caps. The Vox S, Vox K2 and Sonus ship with a removable end cap that holds a silicone wipe for subsonic shooting. Pull the wipe for supersonic rounds.
- Lifetime guarantee. Energetic repairs defects for the life of the suppressor, and at its discretion may cover a customer's first accidental damage to the internals (warranty).
The Serial ID Ring: Re-Core Without a New Form 4
On most suppressors, the serial number is on the tube or the core. If that part is damaged beyond repair, you're looking at a replacement can, a new Form 4 and another wait. Energetic puts the serial number on a separate external ring, and the ring is the registered part.
- Core damaged? Energetic replaces the core as one assembly, and the ring with your serial number goes on the new core.
- No new tax stamp or Form 4. Re-cores and future core upgrades don't need new NFA paperwork.
- Patented. US 11,326,849, plus a suppressor repair method patent, US 11,519,685 (Energetic patents).
- Every centerfire model has it, including the 3D printed Big Sixy, where the serial would otherwise be part of the printed can.
One note from Energetic's warranty: re-coring a Vox means drilling and re-swaging the ring, which leaves a permanent drill mark on it.
What PEW Science Measured
PEW Science tested the Vox S on subsonic 300 BLK, with and without the wipe installed:
| Configuration | Host | Ammo | Suppression Rating | Report |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vox S, no wipe | 8 in. Q mini FIX, 300 BLK | Discreet Ballistics 190 gr subsonic | 48.4 | SSS.6.25 |
| Vox S, wipe installed | 8 in. Q mini FIX, 300 BLK | Discreet Ballistics 190 gr subsonic | 58.9 | SSS.6.38 |
Installing the wipe raised the Vox S's rating by 10.5 points on the same gun and ammo. PEW Science called the Vox S "a machine gun rated silencer" with a diameter and weight suited to both semi-auto and bolt-action hosts.
Energetic Armament .30 Cal Suppressors
Energetic makes four .30 cal suppressors. Here they are, each with its direct thread mount installed:
| Length | Weight | Material | Full-auto | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Energetic Armament Vox S
The Vox S is Energetic's full-size .30 cal: C300 maraging steel, 5.9 in. and 12.9 oz with its direct thread mount and wipe, full-auto rated with no barrel length restrictions.
Calibers: .30 cal bore; full-auto on 5.56, .308 and 300 BLK; also 300 Win Mag and 300 RUM | Length: 5.9 in. with direct thread mount | Weight: 12.9 oz with direct thread mount and wipe; 0.4 oz less without the wipe | Diameter: 1.55 in. at the Serial ID Ring; 1.5 in. core | Material: C300 maraging steel core, black nitride | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 5/8x24 titanium direct thread mount included | Barrel limits: None
The standard end cap holds a silicone wipe for subsonic 300 BLK. Pull it for supersonic shooting. It also takes Energetic's 5.56 and flash hiding end caps.
PEW Science rated it 48.4 on subsonic 300 BLK without the wipe and 58.9 with it (SSS.6.25, SSS.6.38).
Energetic Armament Vox K2
The Vox K2 is the short Vox: the same C300 maraging steel core and ratings as the Vox S in a 4.9 in., 10.4 oz package, built for SBRs and compact rifles.
Calibers: Same .30 cal ratings as the Vox S | Length: 4.9 in. with direct thread mount | Weight: 10.4 oz with direct thread mount and wipe | Diameter: 1.55 in. at the Serial ID Ring; 1.5 in. core | Material: C300 maraging steel core, black nitride | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 5/8x24 direct thread mount included
It ships with the wipe end cap, a cap and mount wrench and a Vox Blox vise block. Optional 5.56 and 7.62 flash hider end caps fit it too.
Energetic Armament Peak 30
The Peak 30 is the multi-caliber .30 cal: a 5-baffle 17-4 H900 stainless core at 6.4 in. and 11.9 oz, rated from 5.56 to 300 Win Mag with no barrel length restrictions under 1,000 degrees F.
Calibers: 5.56, .308, 6.8 SPC, 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Grendel, 300 BLK, 22-250, 300 Win Mag | Length: 6.4 in. with direct thread mount | Weight: 11.9 oz with direct thread mount | Material: 17-4 H900 stainless core, black nitride | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 5/8x24 direct thread mount included | Full-auto: 5.56, .308 and 300 BLK, limited firing schedules
It uses the same end cap thread as the Vox, so the 5.56, titanium wipe and flash hider end caps all fit. Pick the Peak 30 if you want one can across several rifles and don't need the Vox's full-auto durability.
Energetic Armament Lux
The Lux is Energetic's titanium .30 cal for bolt-action and precision rifles: 7.9 in. and 9.84 oz with its direct thread mount, the lightest .30 cal in the lineup.
Calibers: .308, 300 Win Mag, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 300 BLK, 300 PRC, 300 Norma | Length: 7.9 in. with mount; 7.6 in. without | Weight: 9.84 oz with mount; 8.56 oz without | Material: Grade 5 titanium, 7-baffle welded core, DLC finish | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 5/8x24 direct thread mount included | Barrel limits: None at moderate rates of fire; 20 in. minimum on magnums
It's built for bolt guns and moderate-rate semi-autos, not full-auto. We carry both versions: the .30 cal Lux above and a 6.5mm Lux (8.99 oz with mount, 7.72 oz without) rated for 6.5mm and smaller cartridges like 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 6 Creedmoor, 6 PRC and 6 ARC.
Energetic Armament 5.56 and 6mm Suppressors
Energetic Armament Ferox
The Ferox is Energetic's 5.56 suppressor: 17-4 H900 stainless, 5.9 in. and 12.5 oz with its direct thread mount and flash hider end cap, full-auto rated and built for short and mid-length barrels.
Calibers: 5.56 NATO, .223, 5.45x39 and 5.7x28 (all full-auto); 224 Valkyrie, 6mm ARC | Length: 5.9 in. with direct thread mount | Weight: 12.5 oz with direct thread mount and flash hider end cap | Diameter: 1.63 in. | Material: 17-4 H900 stainless core | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 1/2x28 direct thread mount included | Barrel limits: None under 1,000 degrees F | Finishes: Black nitride or FDE
Radial gas bleed chambers are meant to lower back pressure compared with a conventional baffle stack, which matters on short gas guns. A flash hider end cap comes standard.
Energetic Armament Big Sixy
The Big Sixy is a 3D printed Inconel 718 suppressor for AR-style 6mm and 5.56 rifles: 6.7 in. and 14.7 oz, full-auto rated, with a hex-shaped body and a built-in flash hider. It's designed for less blowback.
Calibers: 6mm ARC, 5.56 NATO, 5.45x39 and 5.7x28 (all full-auto); 6 PRC | Length: 6.7 in. | Weight: 14.7 oz | Diameter: 1.65 in. flat to flat; 1.83 in. max | Material: DMLS Inconel 718 | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); mount sold separately | Finishes: Graphite Black or FDE Cerakote
The six flat sides add surface area to help it cool between strings and give you a grip when you mount it. The muzzle end has integrated flash hider prongs. Run it on the Project E mount.
Like every Energetic centerfire can, it carries the Serial ID Ring, so a damaged printed core can be replaced without a new Form 4.
Energetic Armament 9mm Suppressors: Sonus and Sonus 9K
Energetic Armament Sonus
The Sonus is a full-auto rated 9mm suppressor at 6.6 in. and 9.8 oz with its direct thread mount, also rated for supersonic and subsonic 300 BLK.

The removable end cap holds a silicone wipe, included. It takes HUB 3-lug mounts for subguns and HUB booster assemblies for pistols, so one can covers a handgun, an MP5-style subgun and a 300 BLK SBR.
Energetic Armament Sonus 9K
The Sonus 9K is the compact Sonus: 5.05 in. and 8.1 oz, with the same full-auto 9mm rating and multi-caliber ratings.
Calibers: 9mm (full-auto), 300 BLK supersonic and subsonic, 8.6 BLK subsonic, .38/.357 Mag, 350 Legend | Length: 5.05 in. | Weight: 8.1 oz | Diameter: 1.5 in. | Material: 17-4 H900 stainless, black nitride | Mount: HUB (1.375x24); 1/2x28 direct thread mount included | Barrel limits: None under 1,000 degrees F; 10 in. minimum on 350 Legend
It ships with a wipe end cap. Pick the 9K for a pistol or a compact PCC where length matters; pick the full-size Sonus for more volume.
Energetic Armament Rimfire Suppressors: Nyx, Nyx Mod 2 and Nyx 32
All three are 100% titanium, 1 in. in diameter, 1/2x28 direct thread, full-auto rated on .22 LR, and come apart without special tools for cleaning. Because they're titanium, you can clean them with aggressive solvents.
| Length | Weight | Calibers | Modular | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nyx | 5.6 in. | 3.6 oz | .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, 5.7x28 | No |
| Nyx Mod 2 | 3.7 in. short; 6.5 in. full | 2.45 oz short; 4.15 oz full | .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, 5.7x28 | Yes, 4 or 8 baffles |
| Nyx 32 | 3.7 in. short; 6.5 in. full | 2.4 oz short; 4.1 oz full | .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .32 ACP, 5.7x28 | Yes |
Energetic Armament Nyx
The Nyx is Energetic's original all-titanium rimfire can: 5.6 in. and 3.6 oz, with a 7 K-baffle stack and a patented webbed outer tube.
Length: 5.6 in. | Weight: 3.6 oz | Diameter: 1 in. | Material: Grade 5 and grade 9 titanium | Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread | Full-auto: .22 LR
It comes in natural titanium or Graphite Black Cerakote.
Energetic Armament Nyx Mod 2
The Nyx Mod 2 runs short (4 baffles, 3.7 in., 2.45 oz) for a pistol or full length (8 baffles, 6.5 in., 4.15 oz) for a rifle.
Length: 3.7 in. or 6.5 in. | Weight: 2.45 oz or 4.15 oz | Diameter: 1 in. | Material: Grade 5 titanium | Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread | Full-auto: .22 LR
You swap configurations without special tools.
Energetic Armament Nyx 32
The Nyx 32 is the modular Nyx with a .32 ACP rating, for pocket pistols like the Beretta 3032 Tomcat, Kel-Tec P32 and Seecamp LWS-32, and for the VZ 61 Skorpion.
Calibers: .22 LR (full-auto), .22 WMR, .17 HMR, .32 ACP, 5.7x28 | Length: 3.7 in. short; 6.5 in. full | Weight: 2.4 oz short; 4.1 oz full | Material: Titanium | Mount: 1/2x28 direct thread | Finish: Graphite Black Cerakote
Almost no one makes a .32 ACP suppressor, and the Nyx 32 is the only one we know of. Our take: if you shoot a .32 ACP pistol, this is the can.
How Energetic Armament Compares
Vox S vs. Other Short Baffled .30 Cal Suppressors
| Length | Weight | Material | Minimum barrel, .308 / 7.62 NATO | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vox S | 5.9 in. with mount | 12.9 oz with mount and wipe | C300 maraging steel | None |
| Resilient Simple Man | 6.575 in. with mount | 13.4 oz with mount | 17-4 stainless | 14.5 in. |
| Exigent Overwatch762 | 6.75 in. | 10.1 oz | Grade 5 titanium | 14.5 in. |
| CAT AKB | 6.04 in. (HUB) | 17.5 oz Inconel; 9.1 oz titanium (HUB) | Inconel or titanium | 13 in. Inconel; 16 in. titanium |
All four are baffled .30 cals around 6 in. long. The Vox S is the shortest of the four, the only one with no barrel length limit, and the only one that ships with a wipe end cap for subsonic shooting. Pick it if you want one hard-use can for a short-barreled .308 or 300 BLK that can also run quiet subsonics.
Ferox vs. Other Short 5.56 Suppressors
| Length | Weight | Material | Minimum barrel, 5.56 | Mount included | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ferox | 5.9 in. with mount | 12.5 oz with mount and end cap | 17-4 H900 stainless | None under 1,000 degrees F | 1/2x28 direct thread |
| OCL Polonium | 5.8 in. | 13.5 oz | 17-4 H900 stainless | 7.5 in. | 1/2x28 direct thread |
| Exigent FireTeam556 | 5.75 in. | 14.9 oz | Inconel 718 | 10.3 in. | No |
| CAT WB | 5.45 in. (HUB) | 14.6 oz (HUB) | Inconel 718 | 8 in. | HUB or QD versions |
All four are 5.56 cans under 6 in. long. The Ferox and Polonium are the stainless pair and both include a direct thread mount; the FireTeam556 and WB are printed Inconel. The Ferox is the only one of the four with no 5.56 barrel length limit.
Sonus and Sonus 9K vs. Other 9mm Suppressors
| Length | Weight | Material | 300 BLK rating | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sonus | 6.6 in. with mount | 9.8 oz with mount | 17-4 H900 stainless | Supersonic and subsonic |
| Sonus 9K | 5.05 in. | 8.1 oz | 17-4 H900 stainless | Supersonic and subsonic |
| Resilient RS9 | 7 in. with mount | 12.5 oz | 17-4 stainless | Subsonic |
| Exigent RICO309 | 7.25 in. | 9 oz | Grade 5 titanium | Subsonic |
| OCL Lithium | 6 in. | 5.7 oz | Titanium | Supersonic and subsonic, with barrel limits |
| SilencerCo Omega 9K | 4.54 in. | 7.3 oz | Cobalt 6 and 17-4 stainless | Supersonic and subsonic |
All six are full-auto rated on 9mm. The Omega 9K is the shortest and the Sonus 9K is next. The Sonus, Sonus 9K, Lithium and Omega 9K are rated for supersonic 300 BLK, while the RS9 and RICO309 are subsonic only. The Sonus has no barrel length limit under 1,000 degrees F, and the Lithium needs a 7 in. minimum barrel for supersonic 300 BLK.
Mounts differ: the Sonus, Sonus 9K, RS9, RICO309 and Lithium use the HUB (1.375x24) thread, so they share HUB 3-lug, booster and direct thread mounts. The Omega 9K uses SilencerCo's Alpha (1.125x28) thread and SilencerCo pistons.
Nyx vs. OCL Titanium 22 and Dead Air Mask HD
| Length | Weight | Diameter | Material | Full-auto | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nyx | 5.6 in. | 3.6 oz | 1 in. | Titanium | .22 LR |
| Nyx Mod 2 | 3.7 or 6.5 in. | 2.45 or 4.15 oz | 1 in. | Titanium | .22 LR |
| OCL Titanium 22 | 5.18 in. | 4 oz | Not listed | Titanium | .22 LR |
| Dead Air Mask HD | 5.1 in. | 6.6 oz | 1.07 in. | Titanium tube, 17-4 stainless baffles | Yes |
All four are rated for .22 LR, .22 Magnum, .17 HMR and 5.7x28 on a 1/2x28 direct thread, and all four are full-auto rated. The Nyx, Nyx Mod 2 and Titanium 22 are all titanium; the Mask HD pairs a titanium tube with stainless baffles and is the heaviest of the group. The Nyx Mod 2 is the only one that changes length.
Energetic Armament Mounts and Accessories
- HUB rear on every centerfire can. The Vox S, Vox K2, Peak 30, Lux, Ferox, Big Sixy, Sonus and Sonus 9K use the 1.375x24 HUB thread, so they work with HUB direct thread and QD mounts from most major brands. Shop rifle mounts or pistol mounts.
- What's included: a 5/8x24 direct thread mount on the Vox S, Vox K2, Peak 30 and Lux; a 1/2x28 direct thread mount on the Ferox, Sonus and Sonus 9K. The Big Sixy ships without a mount.
- Project E: Energetic's Plan B style QD mount in 17-4 stainless. It fits Q Cherry Bomb, Rearden and other Plan B pattern muzzle devices.
- Sig Tapered HUB Adapter: a HUB direct thread adapter for Sig Sauer and Q tapered barrel shoulders, in 1/2x28 or 5/8x24.
- Thunder Beast HUB Mount: puts a HUB suppressor on a Thunder Beast muzzle device. It's rated up to 300 Win Mag.
- End caps: the Flash Hiding Front Cap (5.56 or 7.62) and the 5.56 Front Cap fit the Vox series. Neither takes a wipe.
- Vox Blox: soft vise jaws that hold a suppressor without marring the finish, sized from rimfire cans up to full-size rifle cans.
- Rimfire: the Nyx, Nyx Mod 2 and Nyx 32 thread straight onto a 1/2x28 barrel.
Energetic Armament Suppressor FAQ
Who makes Energetic Armament suppressors?
Energetic Armament, LLC in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Engineers Karl Edminster and Steve Piche formed it in 2017, and Summit Sound Technologies acquired it in 2022.
What is the Energetic Armament Serial ID Ring?
A separate external ring that carries the suppressor's serial number. If the core is damaged, Energetic replaces the core and moves your ring to it, with no new tax stamp or Form 4. It's patented (US 11,326,849) and on every Energetic centerfire suppressor.
How quiet is the Vox S?
PEW Science rated it 48.4 on subsonic 300 BLK from an 8 in. Q mini FIX, and 58.9 with the wipe installed.
What does the wipe on the Vox S and Sonus do?
A silicone wipe in the end cap seals around the exiting bullet to control gas and cut noise on subsonic rounds. Remove it for supersonic shooting. Energetic doesn't sell replacement wipes; it publishes instructions for making them one for one.
Vox S vs. Vox K2: what's the difference?
