CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION
The Dead Air Mask 22 HD provides best-in-class performance with little to no first-round pop. To our ears and to the meter, the Mask continually leads the pack and runs shorter than most comparable .22 suppressors on the market. We've sold thousands of Mask suppressors since its release, and it remains a shop favorite even with many new options in the rimfire category. With its click-together baffle design and stainless steel construction, cleanup after the fun is as easy as it gets. Dead Air didn't enter the .22 market just to participate. They came to lead, and the Mask proves it.

How does the Mask compare to the RXD 22Ti?
Both are excellent rimfire suppressors from Dead Air, but they're designed around different priorities. The Mask 22 HD uses a Grade 9 titanium tube with 17-4 PH stainless steel baffles, weighs 6.6 oz, and threads directly onto a 1/2x28 host. It's been the benchmark for direct-thread rimfire performance for years and remains a shop favorite. The RXD 22Ti is the newer, lighter option at 5.6 oz, built entirely from Grade 5 titanium. Its headline feature is quick-detach capability via the included XRF muzzle brake, which accepts both 1/2x28 and M10x1 thread pitches. It also uses a single-piece 3D-printed triskelion baffle core instead of stacked baffles, making cleanup even simpler. The short version: if you want maximum acoustic performance on a single host and don't need QD, the Mask is hard to beat. If you run multiple hosts or want faster swaps, the RXD 22Ti is worth the step up.
How do I clean my Mask?
The Mask 22 HD features a user-serviceable click-together baffle design that makes disassembly and cleaning straightforward. Start by unscrewing the front cap with the included front cap tool. If you happen to have lost it, a replacement Dead Air Front Cap Tool is available. Once the cap is off, the baffles push out in sequence. From there, most owners soak the baffles in a dedicated solvent or run them through an ultrasonic cleaner. Rimfire suppressors get dirty fast, so regular cleaning is important. Once clean and fully dry, stack the baffles back in order and reinstall the front cap. The click-together design means no special indexing or tools are required for reassembly.
Can the Mask run on a 5.7 pistol?
Yes. The Dead Air Mask 22 HD is rated for 5.7x28mm in addition to .22 LR, .22 Magnum, .17 HMR, and .17 WSM. As long as your host pistol has a 1/2x28 threaded barrel, you're good to go. The FN Five-seveN, Ruger-57, and similar 5.7 platforms are popular pairings. Just verify your barrel is threaded to 1/2x28 before ordering. If you still need a threaded barrel, check out our rimfire accessories page.
Does the Mask have a barrel length restriction?
No. The Mask 22 HD has no minimum barrel length requirement, which makes it a great fit for compact pistols and short-barreled hosts just as much as full-length rifles. Whether you're running a pocket-sized semi-auto or a 16" target rifle, the Mask will run without restriction. This is one of the things that makes it such a versatile rimfire option across a wide range of platforms.
Is there any first round pop?
Virtually none. First round pop (FRP) occurs when oxygen trapped inside a suppressor ignites on the first shot, causing a louder-than-normal report. Dead Air specifically engineered the Mask 22 HD to minimize this, and it's one of the things that sets it apart from competing rimfire cans. In our testing, both to the ears and on the meter, the Mask delivers consistent, quiet performance from the very first shot. It was a deliberate design goal for Dead Air and one of the reasons the Mask has remained a top seller for us year after year.
What mounting system does the Mask use?
The Mask 22 HD uses a direct-thread 1/2x28 mount, which is the standard thread pitch for .22 LR and 5.7x28mm hosts. There is no quick-detach system on the Mask. It threads directly onto the muzzle of your host firearm. If your host uses a different thread pitch, we carry a variety of thread adapters to bridge the gap. Some hosts require a platform-specific adapter; for example, the S&W M&P 22 Compact uses a dedicated S&W M&P 22 Compact Adapter from Dead Air. We also carry the Dead Air Rifle Thread Spacer for hosts with longer than average threads.

What other Dead Air silencers are popular?
Dead Air makes some of the best suppressors on the market across multiple categories. If you're looking to branch out, here are a few of our top sellers. The RXD 22Ti is the Mask's newer sibling. It's lighter, fully titanium, with quick-detach capability. The Nomad-30 is a lightweight, versatile rifle suppressor with the HUB thread system, compatible with KeyMo, Xeno, ASR, and Plan B mounts. It's a top pick for those looking for a well-rounded rifle silencer. The Ghost 45M is a modular pistol suppressor that handles everything from 9mm to .45 ACP in two configurable lengths. And the Primal is Dead Air's most versatile option, rated from 9mm pistol cartridges all the way up through .338 Lapua. Browse our full Dead Air silencer lineup to see everything we carry.
