The Daniel Defense DD5 V3 (model 02-157-07258-047) is a 7.62x51mm / .308 Winchester AR-10 style rifle built around a 16" cold hammer forged S2W barrel and an intermediate-length gas system. It weighs 8.3 lbs, measures 33.375" to 37" overall with the muzzle device, and accepts SR-25 magazines, shipping with a Magpul PMAG 20-round magazine.

In place of a traditional barrel nut, Daniel Defense's 4-Bolt Connection System attaches the barrel directly to the upper receiver, dramatically increasing the connection surface area for greater rigidity and stability. Daniel Defense says this design delivers accuracy usually associated with high-end bolt action rifles.

A user-adjustable gas block keeps the rifle's feel consistent whether you're shooting suppressed or unsuppressed. The superfinished, DLC-coated bolt carrier group includes a buffer for optimized cycling and improved recoil impulse, and the bolt uses enhanced extractor geometry with dual ejectors for reliable cycling. The barrel is threaded 5/8x24 and ships with the Daniel Defense Superior Suppression Device, which reduces muzzle flash signature and muzzle rise.

Fully ambidextrous controls cover the bolt catch, magazine release, and safety selector, and the independently ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP Charging Handle adds anti-gas features. A free-floating DD5 Rail 15.0 provides M-LOK attachment points along the handguard, and the rifle comes with the Daniel Defense Buttstock and Pistol Grip.

CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION

If you want a .308 AR you plan to run suppressed, the DD5 V3 deserves a close look. The adjustable gas block is the big reason, since it lets you tune the rifle so it feels consistent whether a can is on or off, and the 5/8x24 threads make it easy to pair with any of the .30 cal suppressors listed below.

Beyond that, the fully ambidextrous controls make this one of the easier AR-10s to set up for left-handed shooters, and the 4-Bolt Connection System shows how much attention Daniel Defense put into accuracy on this platform.
