STRATEGIC SCIENCES MFMD 300 BLACKOUT - FLASH HIDER, MUZZLE BRAKE, AND SUPPRESSOR IN ONE
Every other muzzle device on your rifle forces a trade-off. You prioritize flash suppression, recoil control, or sound reduction. The Strategic Sciences Multi-Function Muzzle Device refuses that compromise. Developed under contract with the U.S. military's Irregular Warfare Technology Support Directorate and engineered by Russ Oliver, the founder of OSS Suppressors, the MFMD is a two-piece Inconel suppressor system that handles all three problems simultaneously. The muzzle device installs directly over the barrel threads and the suppressor module locks into place in front of it, adding minimal length to the host weapon while delivering up to 99% first-round flash reduction, up to 60% recoil reduction for faster follow-up shots, and hearing-safe performance. The design vents gas forward, keeping bolt velocity change to within 2% of baseline across all firing schedules. The 300 Blackout MFMD features a 5/8x24 thread pitch.
IMPORTANT NOTES
The MFMD is available in several configurations. The caliber, thread pitch, and color are straightforward, but the other two aspects are worth understanding before you order. The associated number (0.0) indicates a flush fit. The "MD" designation applies to the standard "muzzle device only" model, while the SD (suppressor device) and SDX (suppressor device extended) add modules that attach to the muzzle device for improved suppression.
CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION
The MFMD is one of the most unique suppressors on the market, and the 300 Blackout version might be its most natural fit. This system started as a classified military development program and found its way to the commercial market. 300 Blackout, itself born from a military requirement, feels right at home here. The zero-blowback design is an advantage for this cartridge, due to 300 Blackout's dual-load nature. You can run subsonic and supersonic loadings without worrying about throwing your gun out of tune. The flash reduction matters when you're running night vision on a subsonic setup and don't want a stray supersonic round blowing your optic's image. As with all MFMD configurations, it is available as a standalone muzzle device (MD) or the muzzle device with an additional suppression module (MDSDX).
