PWS MK111 COMPOUND SBR - 11.85" .223 WYLDE LONG STROKE PISTON AR-15, AMBIDEXTROUS LOWER

The PWS MK111 Compound is an 11.85" .223 Wylde short barrel rifle that pairs PWS's Mod 1 upper, complete with a forward assist and full-length M-LOK handguard, with the fully ambidextrous Mod 2 lower. Built on the PWS Long Stroke Piston System, this AR-15 platform SBR weighs 6.2 lbs unloaded, is optimized for suppressed and unsuppressed shooting, and is available in Black or Kodiak Brown.

The .223 Wylde chamber accommodates both .223 Remington and 5.56mm NATO, and the barrel uses a 1:8 twist. Adjustable gas settings let you tune the rifle's performance, and the suppressor optimized design minimizes back pressure, reduces gas blowback, and optimizes gas flow for a cleaner, more comfortable shooting experience behind a can.

The muzzle is threaded 1/2x28 and ships with the PWS FRC 2-Port Compensator, a suppressor compatible device that helps control recoil and muzzle rise. The FRC works with PWS PUB mounts, the Rearden Atlas Taper Mount, and the Plan B by Q Suppressor Adapter.

Both receivers are forged from 7075 aluminum, with the Mod 2 lower hard coat anodized per Mil 8625 Type III Class 2 and featuring a flared mag well, integrated trigger guard, and full ambidextrous controls. An 11.05" M-LOK handguard, Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle, PTFE-coated Mil-Spec Enhanced trigger, PWS Enhanced Buffer System, and Magpul MOE SL stock and MOE K2 grip round out the rifle, and PWS rates it for sub-MOA accuracy with high-grade ammunition.

CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION

The MK111 Compound is about as well rounded as SBRs get. The .223 Wylde chamber runs both .223 and 5.56 without a second thought, and the 11.85" barrel hits a nice middle ground. It's short enough to stay maneuverable, but long enough to keep velocity up if you want to hunt with it or stretch it out to moderate distances.

What makes the Compound stand out is the pairing. You get PWS's full-featured Mod 1 upper with a forward assist and full-length handguard, matched to the ambidextrous Mod 2 lower, so it's truly the best of both worlds. The long stroke piston also keeps the rifle cleaner when you're running suppressed, which means it keeps performing longer between cleanings. For a can, we'd look at the HUXWRX FLOW 556K, SilencerCo Velos LBP 556K, Exigent Defense FireTeam 556, or Stealth Additive Works Tisha.

There are a couple of things to know going in. The piston system is a departure from a traditional AR, so it may take some getting used to if you've only run direct impingement rifles. Because it's a PWS design, you also can't modify or swap gas system parts the way you would on a more traditional AR.

The rifle comes in two colors. Black is the classic choice, while Kodiak Brown gives the receivers, handguard, and buffer tube a darker brown tone that pairs well with FDE accessories if you want something a little different.
