GRIFFIN ARMAMENT HRT-5K AM SUPPRESSOR - LOW BACKPRESSURE, FULL-AUTO RATED, HUB OR DUAL-LOK
The Griffin Armament HRT-5K AM is a compact, low backpressure 5.56 NATO suppressor optimized for AR-15s and other gas-operated rifles, and it can be used on any 5.56 rifle. It's constructed from Griffin's proprietary Nickel 625X powder alloy using SLM additive manufacturing, with the printed core laser-welded to a machined rear. The HRT-5K AM is full-auto rated, finished in black Cerakote, and offered with either a HUB (1.375x24) rear interface at 4.5" and 11.5 oz or Griffin's integrated DUAL-LOK mounting system at 5.22" and 13.8 oz.
This K-size can was adapted from Griffin's R&D work on the full-size HRT-556 AM, with the goal of an extremely low backpressure suppressor in a minimal form factor. A low backpressure baffle stack works alongside a low backpressure flash hider end cap, and left-handed shooters benefit from the very low backpressure stack just as much as right-handed shooters. Griffin Armament rates the HRT-5K AM at 137.3 dB on a 12.5" Griffin MK2, a 34.7 dB reduction. Neither mounting option has barrel length restrictions, although longer barrels promote longer service life.
Nickel 625X is a patent-pending alloy, and in Griffin's testing it showed about a 68% increase in yield and tensile strength over additively manufactured INCONEL 625 at 1200°F. Even at 1472°F, additively manufactured Nickel 625X is stronger than cold formed INCONEL 625 sheet at room temperature. That comparison carries weight because INCONEL 625 is a commonly used alloy in current next generation military suppressors.
Both versions use the same suppressor, and the difference is how it attaches to the rifle. The HUB version runs on the industry-standard HUB (1.375x24) thread and works with Griffin's HUB mount interfaces as well as other manufacturers' HUB mounts. It ships without a mount or muzzle device, so one needs to be purchased separately. The DUAL-LOK version uses Griffin's active-locking DUAL-LOK system for minimal and repeatable POI shift, and it eliminates the fear of unintended loosening during prolonged courses of fire. That version ships with a DUAL-LOK EZ-Brake muzzle device in 1/2x28.
CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION
We like the HRT-5K AM for harder use on semi-automatic and select fire rifles, and it's especially good on short barrel rifles. If you don't want any blowback, this can deserves a close look. Low backpressure is a big deal on gas guns because the rifle runs cleaner, parts see less wear, and the whole shooting experience gets better. Police and tactical use, hard range days, and home defense are all right in its wheelhouse, and the compact size pays off anywhere length matters.
The trade-off is that this is a 5.56 rifle can only, so you're giving up caliber versatility for better performance. On mounting, both models function the same, and the choice comes down to what works best for you. If you enjoy Griffin's DUAL-LOK system, that version is an easy pick. If you'd rather keep your options open, the HUB version lets you run nearly any HUB-compatible mounting system on the market.
