CAT RDM WB 5.56 SUPPRESSOR - RESTRICTED DEVELOPMENT MODEL, INCONEL, SURGE BYPASS, DLC FINISH, HUB MOUNT
The CAT RDM WB is a limited-run 5.56 suppressor built from Inconel and finished in Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, released as part of CAT's internal stress-testing program and not available as a standard production item. At 17.6 oz and 5.45 inches overall, the RDM WB features a 1.60-inch diameter with a minimum barrel length of 8 inches, optimized for 14-inch M4 platforms and projectile velocities from 1,100 to 3,200 ft/s. CAT's Surge Bypass technology manages gas flow at the bore, and the HUB mounting interface accepts a 1/2x28 direct thread mount included in the box. The RDM models are engineered with deliberately thickened walls and elevated design parameters beyond commercial spec.
The added wall mass, 1 to 5 oz over standard CAT variants, is not incidental. It raises thermal capacity, extends firing endurance, and reduces heat-induced performance degradation across sustained strings. The Inconel construction handles the thermal load that would compromise titanium or aluminum cans under comparable stress cycles. This is the same Inconel engineering CAT uses for their harshest-duty applications, packed into a 5.56-optimized form factor.
CAPITOL ARMORY'S OPINION
CAT suppressors don't show up on a lot of radar because the brand doesn't chase volume. What they build, they build right, and the RDM is the clearest example of that philosophy. This suppressor was never intended for the commercial market. It came out of an internal testing program where the design goal was durability and thermal endurance. The thickened walls and Inconel construction push the heat tolerance well past what most 5.56 cans can handle, and the DLC finish holds up where standard coatings start showing wear. The Surge Bypass design is worth understanding. It's a gas management system that routes excess gas away from the shooter's face, particularly on short-barreled M4 platforms where blowback is a real issue. CAT optimized the RDM for the 14-inch M4 precisely because that's a demanding environment, and the performance tuning reflects it. If your primary host is a 14.5-inch or shorter M4-pattern rifle, this suppressor was built for that application. These are a limited production run, and will not be made again.
