The federal transfer tax on NFA firearms was set to $0 effective January 1, 2026 by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The stamp itself costs nothing. What you are buying here is the filing: Capitol Armory prepares and submits your ATF Form 4, tracks it through approval, and completes the transfer by shipping it to your door. This item is added automatically to every NFA item purchased on our site. 

The tax is gone. The paperwork is not, and the paperwork is where transfers stall. We file tens of thousands of NFA forms a year with a team that does nothing else. There is no handoff to a third party and no local shop working out the form between rifle sales. THE AUGUST 5 NFA RULING AND WHAT IT MEANS HERE

On August 5, 2026, a federal court in the Northern District of Texas ruled in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF that the government cannot enforce certain NFA registration and approval requirements against the parties covered by the case. It is not a repeal of the NFA and it is not a nationwide order. It reaches suppressors and AOWs. It does not reach short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, machine guns, or destructive devices. Read our full update.

The ruling also does not change state law. Eight states and Washington, D.C. prohibit suppressors outright. Fifteen more allow them but tie lawful possession to federal registration or licensing, and no court has decided how those statutes interact with a limited federal injunction. Depending on where you live, the ruling may not change anything about your purchase.

Our process is unchanged. We are still filing Form 4s through the established ATF process, and we will not skip a step until we have guidance from our counsel.

 Removing the stamp does not skip the Form 4 and does not create a no-stamp checkout. It only tells our team to pause your order instead of filing it.
