Your Guide to the 2026 NFA Tax Stamp Changes

The landscape of NFA ownership is about to shift in a big way. Starting January 1, 2026, the $200 tax stamp for silencers, SBRs, and SBSs will change to $0. While this is great news for the firearms community, it also means we're about to see an unprecedented surge in applications. Here's everything you need to know to navigate this transition.

The Critical Timeline

December 23, 2025 marked your last opportunity to place an order for submission under the current system.

December 24, 2025 is the last day to certify for any orders previously placed for customers with all their information on file.

December 25, 2025 is when ATF eForms goes offline for the year, closing the door on 2025 submissions.

December 24-31 you can purchase and secure your silencer without paying $200.  We'll file in 2026 for you.

December 26-31 the ATF will be processing the last submissions of 2025.  If they are unable to clear the backlog before January 1, submitted forms will be kicked back and will be resubmitted under the new system.

January 1, 2026 brings the new system online. ATF eForms is scheduled to reopen, but under significantly different rules.

Why Buy Before the Change?

Purchasing now means you can secure your silencer ahead of what will likely be the largest wave of NFA applications the ATF has ever seen.

Capitol Armory's Commitment

We'll be certifying forms all the way up until December 24th to maximize your window of opportunity.  If we have all your information on file and you've already purchased, you'll need to certify before 4:00 PM on Christmas Eve.

Your Options

You can wait until 2026, but supplies may run short.  We suggest looking at Option 2 below.

Option 2: Buy Now, File in 2026
Want to secure your silencer now but save the $200? Simply remove the tax stamp from your cart at checkout. This signals our team to hold your application for filing in the new year.

What Happens After January 1st?

When the rules change in 2026, applications will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis, beginning with those who purchased in July of 2025. The line has already been forming, and it's going to be long.
